Illustrating 'My Special Place'
I chose to illustrate ‘My Special Place’ by thirteen year old, Abdullahi Cianni. The poem conveys the idea of having a place to go to think about memories. My responses evoke the idea of having a place to go within ourselves by using shapes to convey the idea of auras that can consume our thoughts, creating a physical link to mental distress giving attention to pertinent issues in today’s society. Whilst the competition constraints allow for greyscale entries only, I aim to develop this work into a personal project that explores the idea of mental health issues and how illustration could help potentially difficult conversations through an alternative form of communication. Above are colour experiments for this personal project.
